Are You a Business or a Content Creator?
Are You a Business or a Content Creator?
Most of what you have been taught about Social Media Marketing is for Content Creators (a.k.a. Influencers). So how do you create a digital marketing strategy on socials as a business?
Facebook and Instagram work very hard for you to create a lot of content that helps them keep their audience on their sites - post every single day, and show up in stories 8x a day and create fresh content and pictures constantly - But does this really serve your business?
Let’s dive into 3 ways to present your business online without dancing around chasing the algorithm while creating assets we own and control.
Step 1: Create Your Ideal Client Avatar
This will seem really bizarre at first, but it will shape the way to create content from here forward. Get really specific; you can even name your avatar. Get a Google Doc out copy and paste this list and answer these questions.
- Male or Female? Age?
- Single/Married/Divorced? Kids?
- Do they live in a booming city or a small town?
- What level of education do they have?
- What style/vibe do they possess?
- What do they do for work? What does a typical day look like?
- What hobbies do they have?
- Where do they hang out online?
- What businesses do they engage with? Where do they shop?
- What blogs do they read? What podcasts do they listen to?
- What do they love? What things are they drawn to?
- What inspires them?
- What are their dreams? Hopes? Motivations? Ambitions? Fears? Frustrations?
- What is their biggest pain point?
- What keeps them up at night?
- What do they want?
- What do they really need?
Reference this often or at least quarterly to adjust your avatar and be inspired by the clear vision it lends you.
Step 2: Create Some Customer Interactions YOU Own.
If you want to grow a tangible online business you must have some assets online that YOU own and control. Every week you need to be putting out something (Original Content) for your customers to connect to, and get to know you and your business.
- A weekly email newsletter about product updates or customer reviews
- A weekly blog about how you raise your cattle or about what’s happening on the farm
- A weekly podcast your niche and how you bring value to your space
- A weekly Youtube video update on what’s growing and behind the scenes at the ranch
You have real value to bring alongside the pictures you take no matter what the algorithm thinks. So take some time to think of what you can do easily as part of your work day.
Whatever you choose to do, commit to consistency.
That is the key to building trust with your customers. And who is going to interact with all this great content you’re putting out? Your Email List and Social Media followers.
Step 3: Create a Social Media that Works FOR You
Start social media strategy with the goal to get your potential customers off the site, while using the site to amplify your reach with Paid Social Ads. Ads are the best way to spend less time on social media and more time doing the things you actually got in business to do. It’s about creating a digital marketing machine that will find you eager customers on autopilot.
Again commit to showing up every week the same way,
- 1-3 posts a week with one being a video (or slide show post). Run a Nurture Campaign of one of these posts to your warm audience and beat the algorithm that way!
- Your goal here is Saves and Website Traffic.
- ~2 posts a week that are adjacent to your product. If you’re selling beef you might share an update on the beef industry, information about cattle breeds, or the healthy habit of buying directly from the farm.
- Your goal here is Reach, Shares, Follows, Video Views.
- Show up in stories if that works for you too. Think of stories as a private conversation with your favorite customers, so behind the scenes moments and quick conversations and reminders.
- Your goal is Comments and Shares here.
Also consider Pinterest, as it functions as a Search Engine and can be an incredible was to drive traffic to your Original Content, Website, and Freebies.
